Stud Sensor - Edge Detection - 3/4" - Red/Black is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 139.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Craftsman Stud Finder [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This one is basic, and having used it to check for studs, is quite accurate. The tone is loud, and that's a good thing when there is construction work going on around me. I like the red color, because it stands out in my tool bag for an easy grab and it is super light weight. If you're looking for a low priced stud finder (metal and wood), this one will work just fine. The only reason it got 4 stars is because it does not alert to possible electrical wires. There are some jobs that require that feature to ensure my safety. It uses a 9 volt battery.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It works, sort of..... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was installing flush mount fluorescent lights in my garage and I needed to locate the joists, and the reviews for this item were decent, so I picked one up. Like most low cost stud finders, you have to fiddle with it a bit to get a good reading, or to get it to read at all. For whatever reason, this thing found the edges of wall studs no problem, but no matter what I did, I could not get it to locate ceiling joists. I ended up using a magnetic stud finder. I wasn't going to spend a lot on an item I'll rarely use, but I probably should've spent a little more on something else. I'll keep it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Time [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased this based on the overall good ratings and I could not be more unimpressed. I used fresh batteries and followed the instructions. To my amazement, if I went over an area searching for a stud, the device would beep in different areas of 1-3 inches different from previous measurements. I have used a more expensive stud finder before so I know how to read edges but this device was just wrong every time. Save your money and buy a better quality one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good tool for the price [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Unit works as described. It does a good job locating the edge of a stud or header. It cannot tell the difference between a 2X4 stud and an electrical cable . The unit needs a 9 volt battery that is NOT included.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Very Evil Stud Finder [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Perhaps we received a faulty one, but this thing was VERY inconsistent at finding studs and frustrating to work with. We recently had our room drywalled and know that there are studs approximately every 16 inches. This thing found maybe 5 out of 30 studs, all while making the irritating beep sound and dragging gray lines on our white walls with it's soft black feet. We went old school and resorted to knocking to find all of the studs in the room. Useless!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works but annoying power design [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pros: - About $10 cheaper than other stud finders. - Does find studs - Has a notch at top useful for marking the edge of the stud with pencil. Cons - Requires you to hold in the power button the entire time. If you accidentally slip your finger off, it resets and will beep when turned back on and calibrating. In other words, you could get some false positives if your not careful to keep the button pushed in. Best to find a couple of adjacent studs which will likely be 16" apart on center. - No function to find hot wires. - Most other stud finders can go 1.5" deep, though 0.75" isn't a problem with most drywall. - It's got pads on the back face but VERY thin. It still makes a sound like it's scraping the wall. Conclusion: It works. But since you will likely only require 1 stud finder in your life, for $10 more, why not get one that will work better and doesn't require you to hold the button in the entire time?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this basic stud finder for a simple task but the stud finder would not calibrate. The red and green light stayed on together with the constant beep even after trying multiple walls. I think I wasted a battery just trying to calibrate it. Taking it back for a refund

Rated 4 out of 5 by from got the job done [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] sometimes it needed to be calibrated a few times before getting it to work but it was always right about where the stud was and calibration is a breeze. good for the money. saved me alot of holes in my wall
